AREAS OF PRACTICE

STRATEGIZING SEASONAL NUTRITION PLANS

Training intensity throughout the season changes depending on periodization practices during in-season and off-season training. Due to these changes, nutritional needs will vary. Strategizing an athlete’s needs throughout their season can help to maximize body composition while reducing injury risk.

OPTIMIZING BODY COMPOSITION GOALS

In aesthetic sports, optimizing body composition can be critical for performance success. Understanding an athlete’s genetic makeup, sport-specific physiology, and individualized nutrition needs all play a role in achieving one’s healthy body composition goals. As a sports dietitian, Dana is ISAK 1 certified (International Society for Anthro- and Kinanthropometric Measurements) and can use various measurements to understand an athlete’s body composition for nutrition-specific recommendations relative to their goals.

PREVENTING DISORDERED EATING BEHAVIORS

Athletes, especially those in aesthetic sports, are more at risk for developing disordered eating behaviors versus their non-athlete counterparts. Certified in Eating Disorders and Obesity (EDOC), Dana can help with early identification of such behaviors and establishment of fueling and recovery practices conducive to a healthy relationship with food. Maintaining the health and well-being of an athlete for a long, sustainable and successful career is at the core of Dana’s philosophy.

SUPPORTING SAFE SUPPLEMENT PRACTICES

Navigating the supplement industry, that which is not regulated by the FDA, can be exceptionally difficult and risky. Whether you are an amateur or a professional athlete, all can benefit from understanding best practices associated with safe supplement use for improved sport performance. As a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), Dana stays up-to-date with the most recent regulations surrounding supplement usage for National Governing Body and NCAA sports organizations.

NAVIGATING GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

Growth and development can be very challenging for adolescents and teens, let alone those in aesthetic sports. By navigating these changes and understanding nutritional needs during this time, an athlete can foster a healthy mind and body conducive for performance success.

MANAGING TRAVEL NUTRITION

Maintaining nutritional goals when on-the-road can be exceptionally challenging if not well thought out. Whether you are an amateur athlete that travels regionally, a touring artist that travels nationally, or a professional athlete that travels internationally, considering travel nutrition as part of your competition strategy is key to achieving performance goals.

AND MORE…

As a Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, Dana can also work with you in other areas to maximize performance such as managing gastrointestinal symptoms, food allergies/intolerances, and other health-related issues where medical nutrition therapy may apply. If you are a vegetarian or vegan athlete, Dana can also make sure that your diet is as nutrient-rich as possible to support your personal beliefs (animal rights, religious, etc.) and performance goals.
